ID WATCHDOG OFFERS FREE IDENTITY MONITORING TO MILITARY PERSONNEL
Protecting Soldiers against Personal Identity Theft is Vital as Overseas Deployments Continue

/Fraud - Identity Theft News Articles/ - DENVER, CO, June 23, 2007 - As military engagements increase overseas, more and more soldiers are deployed. The protection of military personnel identities is essential during conflict. ID Watchdog, in response to increased troop deployments and a rising number of identity breaches affecting members of the armed forces in recent months, is providing its identity monitoring services free for a limited time to military families to help protect their identities.

ID Watchdog is the nation's only identity theft protection company that provides 360-degree protection for consumers developed with assistance from the U. S. Secret Service, U. S. Postal Inspectors, state and local law enforcement officials and several state attorneys general. While most companies only alert consumers to breaches in their credit information, ID Watchdog monitors a consumer's credit identity as well as their personal information in 13 different critical areas, including criminal, medical and Social Security records, and resolves any detected breaches.

"With so many of our military serving overseas these days, family budgets can get tight," said Justin Yurek, president of ID Watchdog. "The importance of safeguarding one's identity is vital in this day and age and we feel that helping our soldiers protect their identities from possible criminal activity is just a small way we can help."

Stemming the tide of identity theft for military personnel can mean the difference in their duties. "In the military, many people lose their security clearance if they have credit situations," said Al Duarte, executive editor of Military Money magazine, as quoted recently in the Dallas Morning News. In fact, the military won't even take a recruit with bad credit.

Credit is only one facet of identity theft that ID Watchdog monitors, as one of its clients discovered. David Joe Hernandez' plight was reported recently in USA Today. Hernandez' identity was stolen and his record was also mixed with another person while he was serving overseas in the United State Air Force. As a result of the personal and financial breaches, Hernandez spent nearly two years trying to clear false criminal and financial information from his personal records. The false criminal allegations nearly cost him his job (the complete story is available at http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/computersecurity/infotheft/2007-06-04-credit-report_N.htm?csp=34).

It is stories like Hernandez's and the continuing problems of identity breaches - like the loss of 16,000 civilian workers names and information in April at the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command headquarters at Fort Monroe, Va., or the massive data breach last May involving nearly 27 million veterans identities - that ID Watchdog wants to protect with its offering.

Military staff can be sent to a new posting or into a combat zone on a moment's notice for an unspecified amount of time, and their ability to manage finances and personal information can be strained or even compromised during deployment. By providing three free months of access to its monitoring solution, ID Watchdog hopes to put military families mind at ease during a stress filled time.
